The Brain Injury Association of Thunder Bay and Area (BIATBA) supports people living with acquired brain injury through education, public awareness, information and advocacy. BIATBA, established in 2005, is a charity organization run by a volunteer Board of Directors.
PEER SUPPORT MENTORING PROGRAM
Are you living with the effects of an Acquired Brain Injury? Are you looking for support, information or connection with someone who truly understands what you are going through? Are you a “veteran”, living with the effects of Acquired Brain Injury, who would like to support and provide information to someone going through a similar situation?
Then the Peer Support Mentoring Program can help!
The Peer Support Mentoring Program for People Living with Acquired Brain Injury (ABI) connects an individual who is a "veteran" of a life experience involving Acquired Brain Injury (the "Mentor") with a "Partner" who is coping with a similar ABI-related situation and is in need of support from a knowledgeable peer. Both Mentors and Partners can be survivors, family members or unpaid caregivers, 16 years of age and older. All Mentors are trained before being matched with Partners.
Mentor/Partner matches are based on similar experiences and/or demographics and personal interests. Most of the mentoring will be conducted over the telephone (some by e-mail), making it possible for anyone in Ontario to participate. THERAPEUTIC GARDEN PROJECT
Since 2009, BIATBA, in partnership with Partners In Rehab, has provided garden plots and a therapeutic recreation specialist for brain injury survivors, family members and anyone who wishes to participate. There is no charge for participating in the garden. The garden is located within the Lakehead University Community Garden at 955 Oliver Road, Thunder Bay.
